I've been inspired...

I've thought about starting a blog a few times now. Actually, it has been brought to my attention that I should start one. And now I've been inspired to do just that...

For a while I thought it was going to be a food blog, maybe a blog about my complaints of being a PhD student-- but the first category is well represented online and the second would be SO BORING!

So I've decided to write about what I know and what I'm still learning-- health, fitness, school, food, work, love, family, and Mylo (my pup-- of COURSE he has to be represented. The little prince wouldn't have it any other way).

But what has inspired me, you ask? This "lovely" article about  how clean eating is becoming disordered eating.

Don't get me wrong-- there is a hint of truth to the article. Americans do tend to overdo it when it comes to lots of things, especially food. It's all or nothing. Your options seem to be a salad with grilled chicken or a burger with what seems like nothing in between. However, I definitely do not agree by any means that clean eating equates to disordered eating.

First of all, clean eating is NOT the same as some of the fad diets out there-- juice cleanses, magic pills, shakes filled with sugars and fillers. None of those are good for your body. But clean eating is! Clean eating helps you fuel your body with nutrients without filling it with chemicals and preservatives. Think about it: the salt, preservatives, and chemicals you are ingesting are IN your body. You literally put foreign substances into your body and now you're expecting to perform at your best? Probably won't happen.

Unlike the claim in that article, you CAN detox and cleanse your body, but you don't have to take part of a fad diet to do so. Lots of water, lots of fresh veggies, and lean meats will fill your body with nutrients as your body processes out chemicals and extra salt, which the water flushes out of your system. If you aren't refilling your body with chemicals and extra salt as your body flushes it out, that's cleansing and detoxing your body.

I will get to details on the things I talked about here later.... don't want to overwhelm you ;)

To wrap up this first post about my inspiration, health and fitness are passions of mine and I have gone through quite a journey to learn what I know and discover how to be healthy and Feel Good. But that's just a part of what I will be talking about. At the end of the day, I want to share to help others-- so if you have questions or comments, please let me know! Otherwise, I will be as open and honest as I can be because if I can inspire one person to be healthier, happier, and stronger (mentally, physically, and emotionally), then I'll call it a win.

Love,
Paulina
